TOP 10 OLDEST HOTELS IN LAS VEGAS HISTORY…

The top 10 oldest hotels in Las Vegas is a topic, rich with history. Las Vegas has a famous history with stories and narratives of old gangsters, mobsters and illegal happenings.  Las Vegas does have an interesting backstory on how this town came to be. Starting with the Mormons who settled the town, but that was just the humble beginnings for a town we have all come to know and love, VEGAS.

I compiled with the help of the history provided on oldest.org the list of the Top 10 Oldest Hotels In Las Vegas. On January 13th, 1906, 51 one years after the Mormons settled in the area, the first Casino opened in Las Vegas. The Golden Gate Casino was the first casino to open in Las Vegas,  114 years ago this month (Jan. 2020).

Several Las Vegas firsts happened at the Golden Gate Hotel and Casino, including having the city’s first telephone installed (the Golden Gate’s phone number was 1); putting up a large outdoor sign, a precursor to Las Vegas’ iconic neon lights; and being the birthplace of the shrimp cocktail.
